In 1981, Les decided to have a change of career from working in a small engineering culture to retraining within the financial services sectors. He gained valuable experience with the biggest company Prudential. During the seven years Les was employed with the Prudential his responsibilities were to provide financial solutions with his personal clients advising on pensions, life insurance and investment/savings. However, there was an area his clients sought advice elsewhere and this was probably the largest life investment home buying. In 1989, Les decided the only way he could provide mortgage advice was to re-employ with an estate agency network. The following five years he was responsible for ALL mortgage related business for local home buyers within the Seaham and Peterlee agencies as a senior mortgage advisor. Promotion followed swiftly to area mortgage advisor and increased his responsibilities to oversee mortgage business from two other agencies in Houghton le Spring and Hetton le Hole. In the early days of Kimmitt and Roberts, Les was similarly responsible for providing mortgage advice for clients as well as having direct responsibility for the financial aspects of running a busy but provincial estate agency. As the business grew, Les became more involved with the difficult task of running the business. In more recent years, Les has had direct involvement with the property investment sector, and more recently has become directly involved in repossession sales throughout the northeast.
